Mr Alun Ffred Jones AM
Chair, Environment and Sustainability Committee
National Assembly for Wales
Cardiff Bay CF99 1NA

Dear Alun Fred

I am delighted that the Committee will be undertaking an inquiry into the implications of the Energiewende programme for Wales.

I am sure the Committee will have gained a great insight from your visit. As I have mentioned previously I have good links with Gunther Bachman who leads the German Council for Sustainable Development and has been significantly involved in the programme.

It may also be useful for the Committee to be reminded of the consistent messages from the Climate Change Commission and also from my annual commentary in respect of issues around energy transition. I attach the summary of the energy conversation arising from the Wales We Want.

I would also recommend Merlin Hyman, Director of Regen South West which in my view is one of the most effective low carbon energy transition agencies operating in the UK.

Finally, I also wanted to mention that I recently hosted a meeting of international colleagues with similar roles. This included representation from the Finnish Parliament’s Committee for the Future, who were keen to extend an invitation to Committee members to visit Finland.

With best wishes

Peter Davies
